Girl, 14, shot at Roxboro ball park

Roxboro police said a 14-year-old girl was shot Monday evening at a ball field owned by Person County.

Lt. Todd Boycher said the shooting occurred at Longhurst Ball Park, 425 Long Ave., between 6:15 and 6:30 p.m.

The girl was taken by ambulance to Person Memorial Hospital in Roxboro and then airlifted to Duke University Hospital in Durham. Boycher said her injuries are not considered life-threatening.

A police detective was talking to the girl and her family at the hospital, developing information about the case.

Boycher said investigators had at least one person of interest but haven't named anyone as a suspect or filed charges in the case.

The victim's name was not released because she is a juvenile.
