Fuquay-Varina woman to missing granddaughter: 'Tell her I love her'

The last time Louise Curtis saw her granddaughter, she had asked the 29-year-old to clean her room and bathroom in the house they share in Fuquay-Varina.

“Before I could check to see what she had done, she was gone,” Curtis said Wednesday.

Tamesha Brown walked out of the house May 23, leaving her 10-year-old son behind, and Curtis has been searching for her ever since. Authorities have issued a Silver Alert for Brown because she has mental disabilities.

Curtis said her granddaughter has a low IQ, is manic depressive, has mild schizophrenia and suffers from grand mal seizures. She previously lived in a group home but moved in with her grandmother last year.

Curtis said Brown left without her medication and just the clothes on her back.

“She’s’ gullible. She would go anywhere with anyone. She may be out there, just out there,” said Curtis, 68. "She is a danger to herself at this point because she hasn’t had any medicine at all. I’m concerned for her and her son.”

She said Brown’s son, who also lives with her, is struggling with his mother’s disappearance.

“He’s upset that she’s not here,” Curtis said. “The first few days she was gone, he would get up, open the door and look for her and cry and say, ‘I want my mommy.’ That’s heart-wrenching.”

Curtis said she tracked Brown to her boyfriend’s house in Durham the day she left. The pair took a bus to Raleigh and went their separate ways. They were supposed to meet back at the bus station later that night, but Brown never showed up.

Brown was seen in the Capital Boulevard area in Raleigh, where Curtis has distributed fliers and driven around to search for her.

“She’s a real caring person. She will give her last to anybody, and I’m afraid that she’s not taking care of herself,” Curtis said. “I don’t know if she’s sleeping somewhere on the street or is with someone.”

Brown is black, 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs about 205 pounds. Anyone with information about her is asked to call the Fuquay-Varina Police Department at 919-552-3191.
