Fire rips through historic Raleigh home, destroys magazine publishing office

A historic home on East Jones Street in Raleigh was heavily damaged early Wednesday morning after a fire started in the back of the home, authorities said. 

Raleigh firefighters responded to the two-story home, at 516 East Jones St., just before 2 a.m. The 5,000-square foot house was built in 1851 and was one of the oldest occupied structures in Raleigh.

The owners of The Raleigh Downtowner, a monthly magazine that feature articles on dining, entertainment, business, events, music, fashion, wine, arts and culture, said their offices housed in the historic home were heavily damaged in the blaze. 

The magazine owners were hoping to borrow equipment in order to keep publishing, and put out a call for help Thursday morning on the magazine's Facebook page.

Authorities said an electrical failure likely started the fire. One person home at the time the blaze started got out safely.  

No other information was released.
