Fayetteville police investigate infant's death

Police said Thursday that they are investigating the December death of a 9-month-old Fayetteville girl as a homicide.

Somiah Renee Prieto was found unresponsive in a home in the 2600 block of Emerson Avenue on Dec. 4, police said. She was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where she died the next day.

An autopsy determined the cause of death was a “non-accidental head injury,” prompting police to investigate her death.

No other details of the case were released.
