The Town of Cary and Lumpy's Ice Cream are looking for the next best ice cream flavor in a contest that's part of Scoops for Troop, an event that honors all active military and veterans.

Scoops for Troops is 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, at the corner of Academy Street and Kildaire Farm Road in downtown Cary. The event includes a ceremony to honor the troops, an ice cream eating contest, games, children's activities, entertainment, military vehicles, displays and more.

They'll be collecting non-perishable supplies for the USO at RDU, including toothbrushes, paper towels, paper plates, disposable cutlery, hard candy and toothpaste. And they'll take your expired coupons, which service members can use at overseas commissaries.

In addition to all of that, they'll have a Next Best Flavor Contest. Contestants will need to bring their homemade ice cream to the contest for judging. The winning flavor will be featured for a month by Lumpy's Ice Cream.
