Local Jackson memorial service set

A local memorial service for the “King of Pop” Michael Jackson will be held Tuesday at the downtown Raleigh Convention Center, event organizer Bruce Lightner announced Saturday.

A local memorial service for the “King of Pop” Michael Jackson will be held Tuesday at the downtown Raleigh Convention Center, event organizer Bruce Lightner announced Saturday.

The three-hour service will include testimonials from local Jackson fans and musical tributes from area groups.

The Martin Luther King All-Children's Choir will perform and area clergy will offer prayers for Jackson.

An electronic simulcast of Jackson's funeral from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, Calif., will be aired on large screens.

Admission is $5 per person. Tickets will go on sale at the Progress Energy Center Box Office and the Raleigh Convention Center Box Office at 9 a.m. on Monday.

Doors will open at 10 a.m. on Tuesday. The event starts at noon.
