Deputies shot a woman after she allegedly stabbed a deputy in the leg following a multi-county chase Tuesday morning.

At 2:44 a.m., deputies with the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a report of a suspicious person at 403 S. Main St. in Salemburg. The homeowner reported a woman driving a green Saturn passenger car was parked on his property and was repeatedly sounding the car’s horn.

Deputies said the caller also reported seeing the female outside of her vehicle with a knife, shouting, "someone was out to get her."

The car left as Sampson County deputies arrived. Deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the suspect did not stop. Deputies pursued the woman into Bladen County, where deputies with the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office were able to provide additional assistance.

Bladen County deputies successfully used stop sticks on the suspect's car. Deputies said after the car had stop sticks deployed, the suspect stopped her car in the front yard of a residence on E. Oak Street, just outside of White Lake.

The woman stabbed a Sampson County deputy in the leg, which is when deputies from Sampson County and Bladen County shot the woman.

Deputies accidentally shot and killed a dog during the incident.

The injured Sampson County deputy was transported by an officer to the Sampson County Emergency Department where the deputy received treatment for minor injuries and has since been released.

The Sampson County Sheriff's Office said the names of the suspect and officers involved are being withheld at this time.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations has also been contacted and is investigating the incident.

This comes two days after a Person County deputy shot and killed a man near Rougemont.
