Court date pushed back for father of accused Hedingham mass shooter
The father of Austin Thompson, the teenager accused in Raleigh's Hedingham mass shooting, was scheduled to appear in court Thursday. But that did not happen.
Alan Thompson is facing misdemeanor charges for storing a firearm in a manner accessible to a minor.
After getting a continuance, Alan Thompson's next court date is now scheduled for May 30.
Last week, a potential trial date for 16-year-old Austin Thompson was scheduled for Sept. 22, 2025. The teenager is facing five counts of murder, two counts of attempted murder, two counts of assault with deadly weapon with intent to kill and one count of assault with firearm on law enforcement officer.
In October, a judge ruled Austin Thompson – who was 15 on Oct. 13, 2022, when investigators say he killed five people, including his brother, in an east Raleigh neighborhood – should be tried as an adult.
Attorneys Roger Smith and Russell Babb are representing Alan Thompson and his wife, Elise Thompson, along with a public defender.
Alan Thompson's hearing is now scheduled for the morning of May 30.
