NC sees decreases in COVID wastewater, COVID hospitalizations compared to previous weeks

COVID particles detected in North Carolina wastewater are down for a third consecutive week, as well as people admitted to the hospital with COVID.

COVID particles detected in North Carolina wastewater are down for a third consecutive week, state data shows.

The data showed there were 27 million viral gene copies per person found in wastewater for the week ending in Sept. 27.

For the week ending Sept. 20, it was 34.9 million viral gene copies per person. It was 36.6 million for Sept. 13 and 41.3 million for Sept. 6.

The number of people admitted to the hospital with COVID was also down, 2% lower than the last week from 608 people to 597 people. For the week ending Sept. 16, there were 623 patients hospitalized in North Carolina with COVID-19.

Flu hospitalizations were also low. Nine people were hospitalized as of Sept. 30, down from 14 as of Sept. 23.
