The Town Board voted Thursday night to remove Commissioner Dee Carter after she was charged in connection with a dispute with town officials.

Carter, who didn't attend the commissioners meeting, was charged with disorderly conduct and communicating threats Thursday after a confrontation at Town Hall.

Mayor Marshall Miller said the move is in the best interest of the town. He said he received guidance in handling the matter from the Institute of Governance at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

The removal takes effect in 30 days, and Carter can request a public hearing on the matter during that time.
