Burr, Ross agree to October Senate debate

Republican U.S. Sen. Richard Burr and his Democratic opponent, Deborah Ross, have agreed to take part in an Oct. 13 debate.

Republican U.S. Sen. Richard Burr will face Democratic former state lawmaker Deborah Ross in the November 2016 election.

Republican U.S. Sen. Richard Burr and his Democratic opponent, Deborah Ross, have agreed to take part in an Oct. 13 debate.

The hour-long debate, sponsored by the North Carolina Association of Broadcasters Educational Foundation, will be aired live on WRAL-TV and WRAL.com, as well as on dozens of other media outlets across the state. The moderator for the debate, which will be held at UNC-TV studios in Research Triangle Park, hasn't been named yet.

"The Broadcasters of North Carolina have a long history of providing live, over-the air coverage of political debates," NCAB President Joe Pomilla said in a statement. "We are thrilled host this debate and to provide a platform for the candidates to discuss the compelling issues confronting North Carolina for the benefit of the people of North Carolina."

Burr is seeking his third six-year term in the Senate. Ross is a former state House member from Wake County.
