American Airlines flight makes emergency landing at RDU

An American Airlines flight made an emergency landing Wednesday morning at Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) due to a possible mechanical issue, the airline said.

"American Airlines flight 1787 with service from Washington, D.C. (DCA) to Orlando (MCO) diverted to Raleigh, North Carolina (RDU) on account of a possible mechanical issue," the airline told WRAL News in a statement.

At 9:53 a.m., the flight landed at RDU. American Airlines said the flight landed safely and without issue.

"We apologize to our customers and thank them for their patience as we work to get them on their way," the airline said.
