Storms possible Friday afternoon as front nears NC
Warm, moist air is continuing to linger over central North Carolina ahead of an approaching cold front, and the unsettled air mass will once again help produce afternoon showers and storms on the final day of the work week.

Spotty storms moved through the area Thursday afternoon, prompting severe thunderstorm warnings for several Triangle-area counties, including Lee, Moore, Harnett and Chatham.
"It looks like we have another good chance of thunderstorms Friday afternoon," WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said. "They will be widely scattered, but areas that see them could get heavy rain and damaging winds."
Partly cloudy skies will allow the sun to warm the Triangle quickly Friday morning. Temperatures will reach the 70s by 9 a.m. before topping out in the upper 80s during the afternoon.
A cold front will slide through the region overnight, ushering in slightly drier and more comfortable air for the weekend.
"We still have a chance for a few scattered storms on Saturday and Sunday, but they will likely stay near the South Carolina border because our front is going to stall there," Gardner said. "In our area, it may feel a bit better in terms of our humidity."
Highs Saturday and Sunday will be in the upper 80s, and overnight lows will dip slightly, falling into the mid-60s both days.
After the brief break from intense heat, highs will return to the low-to mid-90s by the middle of next week.
