Saturday dawned partly sunny with temperatures in the low to mid 60s. During the afternoon hours, temperatures will top out in the mid-80s across the region.
"We will start off a bit muggy in the morning, but we will dry out as we head into the afternoon," Maze said.
Plenty of sun for U.S. Open
"Weather conditions will be beautiful Saturday and Sunday in Pinehurst," Maze said.
Temperatures on Saturday afternoon will reach the upper 80s under partly cloudy skies as golfers are scheduled to tee off just after 9: 20 a.m.
"The only concern for Saturday is a very slim chance for a shower in the afternoon," he said.
Skies will be party cloudy Sunday with temperatures staying in the mid-80s for Father's Day.
After the brief break from intense heat, highs will return to the low-to mid-90s by the middle of next week.
