Bankrate.com recently released a list of  5 stores with great return policies. You may want to consider these stores when giving gifts this year.

The article lists Nordstrom, Zappos.com, L.L. Bean, Costco and Target as stores with more than reasonable return policies. Some stores, like L.L. Bean, have no restrictions on their return policy. There are no time limits and no receipt required!

The full article and more information on the policies of each of the stores is found on Bankrate.com.

Target is horrible if you return a gift someone else purchased you. I had a foster child who was 'adopted' by a high school class. They purchased various gifts, many duplicates like gloves and other clothing items. Even after I explained the circumstance, Target wouldn't even allow me to exchange the items without a receipt.

Target is awesome. I have never had a problem with them. They take it back, no questions asked. I am really surprised that anyone has had a problem with them.

Totally agree about Target being easy NOW. They used to be much more difficult but if you pay with a debit or credit card of any kind (bank or Target), they can pull up the amount you paid and give you a refund with no issue.

Kohls returns are always fast and easy, I love them.

Thanks for all the feedback about your experiences with returns at various stores. I have had good experiences lately returning items to Kohl's and Target. I always pay with credit card at Target and they now can look up the sale so I don't need the receipt.

JCP IS AWESOME!!!

Amazon and Williams-Sonoma are also great for returns and customer service. Amazon, especially, has gone above and beyond whenever there has been the slightest problem. King Arthur Flour is an awesome company to deal with, and like Amazon, went out of their way to make good and then some on an item I received that was slightly flawed. I've had good luck with Pottery Barn as well.

Kohl's is my favorite on returns - if you used a Kohl's charge, they have the history in the computer, no receipt needed. Funny story, a couple years ago last minute I bought a pair of shoes and took off to NY. Well, it was a couple weeks later, in NY, I open the box to put them on and there were TWO LEFT SHOES :)

I knew where the receipt was, at home, and planned to return them when I got back to NC. Except, my son had decided to 'redecorate' and moved my desk and all it's piles of paper (chaos that I understood where every piece of paper was and how to find what I was looking for). Never could find the receipt.

So, I decided to take them back anyway and see what could be done. That's when I discovered that they have the history in the computer and I never needed the receipt :) Got credited right away and off I went. Love Kohl's, always cheerful and very helpful.

Coldwater Creek and Talbot's are great with returns. I order a lot online, and return to the store when necessary. With Coldwater Creek, if I don't have the receipt, they will call customer service and find out how much I paid for the item and then refund with no problem. I haven't ordered from Talbot's as often, but the one return I needed to make went just as easily as Coldwater Creek.

BTW, both have EXCELLENT sale prices online from time to time!

thesak.com has an awesome return and customer service department. I bought a purse a Macy's and was not very happy with the workmanship on the purse (it was falling apart!) a month after I bought it and I emailed them and they told me to mail the purse to them and they gave me a HUGE online credit to order anything I wanted from thesak.com with free shipping!
