Store clerk shot during Southern Pines robbery

— A gunman shot a clerk during a convenience store robbery in Southern Pines early Monday, police said.

Police said a man carrying a semi-automatic gun came into a Kangaroo convenience at 10805 U.S. Highway 15-501 shortly before 4 a.m. He shot the clerk once, took money from the cash register and fled on foot, heading east.

The clerk, whose name wasn't released, was taken to a hospital. A condition update wasn't available.

    If you have ignorance to shoot someone and rob a store you might as well hit up a bank. Come on shoot someone over maybe 70 bucks.
