Raleigh, N.C. — A man suspected of stealing luggage from a woman at Raleigh-Durham International Airport led police on a chase Tuesday morning that ended when he slammed into a concrete median along U.S. Highway 70, police said.
Christian Marquez Lewis, 24, of 5809 Park Chester Road in Raleigh, was charged with felony larceny and felony fleeing to elude arrest.
According to an arrest warrant, Lewis stole $1,200 in luggage, clothing and jewelry from a Durham woman at RDU and jumped in a car to get away. Airport police chased the car up Aviation Parkway to eastbound Interstate 540.
As the speeding car tried to exit onto eastbound U.S. 70, Lewis lost control and crashed into the median, and the car flipped over the barrier, police said.
Lewis was taken to Duke University Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
