Stolen liquor truck found in Florida

Posted May 21, 2008

— The trailer of a liquor-laden semi truck that was stolen in Clayton three weeks ago was found in south Florida Tuesday – minus the liquor, police said.

The truck was left overnight on May 1 behind a Bojangles' near the intersection of U.S. Highway 70 Business and Shotwell Road. When the driver returned Friday morning, the truck was gone, police said.

The rig was carrying $150,000 in liquor to Raleigh at the time, police said.

The truck's cab turned up a week later in Benson, near the intersection of Interstate 40 and N.C. Highway 210. Police said it appeared the truck had been broken into and hot-wired.

Officers with the Miami-Dade Police Department on Tuesday found the 53-foot trailer abandoned near the Everglades. The trailer wasn't damaged, but the liquor was missing, police said.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Detective Jason Barnes of the Clayton Police Department at 919-553-1570.
