Stepson charged with killing Chatham man

A Creedmoor man has been charged with killing his stepfather in a home near Pittsboro, Chatham County authorities said Wednesday.

PITTSBORO, N.C. — A Creedmoor man has been charged with killing his stepfather in a home near Pittsboro, Chatham County authorities said Wednesday.

Deputies responding to a call at 110 Andrews Store Road on Tuesday found Warren Ray Barnes, 72, injured. He was taken to UNC Hospitals, where he died.

Mickey Bryant Hicks, 48, of 622 Oakleaf Circle in Creedmoor, was charged with first-degree murder in Barnes' death and was being held without bond in the Chatham County jail.

Authorities didn't say what type of injuries Barnes sustained or release information about a motive for the crime.
