Stein steps into 2016 AG race
A day before a series of appearances across the state, state Sen. Josh Stein announced Sunday via an email to supporters that he's running for attorney general in 2016.

"Friends," says the message forwarded to WRAL News, "Tomorrow, I officially announce my campaign for North Carolina Attorney General! Anna, the kids, and I are excited, and we are deeply grateful for your support that has helped make this announcement possible."
"As Attorney General, I’ll stand up for those who work hard and play by the rules. And I’ll take on big corporations and politicians when they don’t. Because no one is above the law," the message continues.
Stein, an attorney, is in his fourth term as a state senator, first elected in 2008 as a successor to now-State Treasurer Janet Cowell.
The announcement is further evidence that incumbent democratic Attorney General Roy Cooper intends to challenge Gov. Pat McCrory in 2016. Cooper has yet to officially declare his widely expected candidacy.
No other Democrat has yet entered the attorney general race, although Fayetteville attorney Tim Dunn is reportedly considering a bid.
