Stedman, N.C. — Cumberland County detectives arrested a Stedman woman Monday and charged her with embezzlement in connection with the theft of thousands of dollars from a charity she was working for.
Maranda Lea Damico, of 6503 Tennis Drive, is accused of stealing $10,839.60 from the Swamp Boys and Fishing to Fight Cancer Foundation between April 28, 2012, and Oct. 15 of this year.
Damico, 34, was the charity's treasurer and in charge of bookkeeping, according to the sheriff's office.
Detectives say she took cash that was collected during a fundraiser and used other donated monies for personal loans and other expenses without the consent of the foundation.
Damico was placed in the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $10,000 unsecured bond. She will make a first court appearance at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the detention center courtroom.
