Stay tuned: Probability of light snow this weekend increases

New data Wednesday shows the storm may be heading farther south towards the area, so the probability has increased.

While temperature highs could reach the 70s Thursday and Friday, temps will plummet quickly this weekend.

"A change is coming," said WRAL meteorologist Mike Maze. "Friday is a transition day with the next front coming by and the possibility of some precipitation.”

Maze said that if winter precipitation does fall, warm ground temperatures combined with a quick moving system will make accumulation difficult.

Friday temperatures could dip down to the 30s with significant winds. Expect a windy mix of sun and clouds, and a slim chance of passing sprinkle or isolated shower.

"After the front, old man winter will return, bringing in the colder air. Highs will be in the 50 on Saturday will increasing clouds, and some precipitation Sunday morning," Maze said.

Saturday will be partly sunny, and much cooler. Highs will only reach the upper 40s to mid 50s, and precipitation is possible.

Sundays temperatures could plummet into the 20s with a good chance of precipitation during the morning to midday. Highs will be mainly in the 40s.

"Monday temperatures should be in the 50s and likely to stay rather chilly through all of next week," he said. "In fact all of next week it looks like temperature could remain well below normal."
