With third strike, Sanford sex offender faces life in prison

Posted August 12, 2014

 Bailey Mills

— A Harnett County man who pleaded guilty to a charge of manufacturing child pornography has earned his third strike for sex offenses and faces a sentence of 35 years to life.

Bailey Joe Mills' most recent arrest came in June, when he was named as the operator of an unregistered day care at his home at 184 Nichole Drive in Sanford. There, according to investigators, he sold the sexual services of his charges to other men.

A search of Mills' home turned up several videos of him molesting children as young as 1 year old and tens of thousands of images of child pornography. Investigators identified 10 victims of Mills' sex ring between ages 1 and 14.

Mills was arrested in January for allegedly propositioning a 13-year-old girl for sex.

Both those incidents came after Mills' convictions in 1997 and again in 2000 for indecent liberties with a child.

I don't think anyone that harms a child should get a second chance. I also think anyone that gets a prison sentence of more than 10 years should be put to sleep. Any one that is in prison for 50 years and gets out is never going to be able to reenter the general public.

My question is what parent in their right mind would let this man watch their kids at his home? I know daycare is expensive but come on. One look at this guys and I would start running with my kids

They don't like child sex offenders in prison. You can bet he will be someone's "girl friend" after he gets there.

With the way our justice system has become, it would not surprise me at all, if this creep were to be released again.

THREE offenses and he only gets 35 years?? In my opinion he should've already been in there after the first offense.

Let's let out some of the people in there for selling weed and maybe we'd have more space. I bet some of those guys have more time than this guy will do.

I'd prefer it if he faced lethal injection...

Let the jailed pot-smokers out and you'll have 15% more jail space for *real* bad guys like this...and they'd stay in there longer.

OH, wow! You get up to 3 strikes before the state cares about sex offenders, and child sex offenders at that??!!! Why wouldn't we give him another chance? Does 4 not fit in with the male driven sports lingo? Or does 4 just seem outrageous for the State DA?? I hope all the other sex offenders read this and be sure to stop at 2, because this state is not playing around...on the third time!

Good. This will be one the officers will not have to be concern with.

I'm with you! Harm a child in any way, shape, or form or murder someone in cold blood or rape them? Guilty beyond a shadow of a doubt? An immediate death penalty, no questions asked!
