NC launches new website for job-seekers
The North Carolina Department of Commerce launched a new website Monday called NCWorks Online to help connect job-seekers with employers.
Posted — UpdatedEmployers can also post jobs and use real-time labor market information to help them making competitive offers to recruit workers.
NCWorks replaces the state's old system, NC JobConnector, and eliminates the need for eight additional information systems, which is expected to save the state more than $2 million each year until 2018.
Anyone can use the site and can access sample cover letters and resumes as well as education and training opportunities.
To apply for a job, however, users must create an account that requires them to provide their Social Security number, age and date of birth.
Commerce Deputy Secretary Josh Ellis says that is required by the federal grant program that's paying for the new site, but that the private information won't be sent out to any employers.
While the site offers tips for avoiding job scams, Ellis says the state can't check every listing.
