— The State Bureau of Investigation is looking into the death of an inmate at a prison in Greene County, officials said Tuesday.

Staff members at Maury Correctional Institution found Charles Branch unresponsive in his cell Monday morning. Paramedics transported Branch to Pitt County Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Branch, 40, was serving eight to 11 years for convictions in Johnston County as a habitual felon and driving while intoxicated.

The Department of Correction called the death "suspicious."

Actually, a few more "accidental" deaths in our prison system might just make it un-appealing to people.

You all should be ashamed of yourselves. This was a family member of mine and no one deserves to die the way he did. No matter this mans past you are not GOD so stop trying to be someone that you will never be let alone see!! If you silly people know anything about the bible you reap what you sow. But who are we to be judgemental and make nasty comments about ones life. Like someone said he is someone son, uncle, father and friend. Watch what you say, it offened me number, number two if his kids were to see what people are posting you could set something off...

I didn't see the comment that was removed, but dlwilliams1 is right--one should not make disparaging comments about the deceased. It is up to the Lord to judge, not us.

I agree with you 27615. Im also thinking dlwilliams1 wouldn't be saying that if this felon and drunk driver had killed someone in his/her family.

Guards probably beat him to death because he had too many postage stamps.

dlwilliams1...your right..poor criminal...I really wish he would have lived to his parole date so that he could commit more crimes...in fact I think we should let the habitual offenders out and they can stay at your house...

I'm from Raleigh...where do you come from?

27615, that statement is uncalled for. No matter the life this man lived, he is somebody's child. Where do you people come from with the statements you make? Sickening.
