DURHAM, N.C. — State regulators are investigating the Durham County Alcoholic Beverage Control Board and whether its general manager has been steering contracts to friends of board members.

North Carolina ABC Commission administrator Mike Herring requested in May that the Division of Alcohol Law Enforcement conduct the investigation, officials said.

In addition to Durham County contracts, officials said ALE is reviewing the hiring of county ABC general manager Emily Page and the use of agency credit cards by Durham ABC board members and employees.

The state ABC Commission regulates the sale of alcohol, and county boards are in charge of selling bottled liquor in their local jurisdictions.
