State Fair: UNC-TV lines up characters, mascots for Guest Star Day

Posted October 14, 2014

Read-a-roo meets and greets at the Marbles and UNC-TV tent at the fair.

UNC-TV will be teaming up with both Marbles Kids Museum and the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences this year to offer some great, low-key, free fun at the N.C. State Fair.

The booth, which sits next to Dorton Arena, features games and activities best for toddlers and grade schoolers. They usually have some fun freebies as well. I've written about this exhibit twice. You can see my earlier posts in the More on This section. It's a great place to slow down for a bit after a visit to the midway.

UNC-TV's regular Guest Star Day is set for this Saturday, Oct. 18, the first Saturday of the fair. On Guest Star Day, characters and mascots from UNC-TV's popular children's programs come out for visits and photo opportunities.

Here's the schedule for this Saturday:

10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.: Peg and Cat from the series Peg + Cat
10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m: Martha from Martha Speaks
11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.: Duck from WordWorld
11:30 a.m. to noon: Read-a-roo, UNC-TV's Just for Kids mascot
Noon to 12:30 p.m.: Peg and Cat
12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m.: Martha
1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.: Duck
1:30 p.m. to 2 p.m.: Read-a-roo
2 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Peg and Cat
2:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.: Martha

Marbles will be offering free games for the kids in the exhibit. And, for the first time, the natural sciences will offer some activities in a tent inside the UNC-TV booth. Oct. 25, the second Saturday of the fair, will be Science Day when both Marbles and natural sciences museum staff will offer special activities.

Thanks HIPPY_MOM, that's a great idea. I'll have to look into it. I didn't know that they visited schools.

Read-a-Roo once visited my daughter's school to help read a book to her class. I bet if you called UNC-TV, they might be able to arrange a visit with Peg and Cat at your daughters' school or preschool.

A little bummed, the only day we can't make it. My girls LOVE Peg+Cat. I wish they were going to be there more than just the one day. They had a great time at the UNC-TV tent last year!
