State Fair Attendance Lower Again on Day 3
Attendance at the North Carolina State Fair continued to be down slightly three days after the gates first opened.
Posted — UpdatedPreliminary numbers show that 3,071 fewer people attended the first three days of the fair this year than in 2006. Total attendance for the three-day period was 236,187.
The biggest drop came on Sunday when 87,670 people passed through the gate – down 4,098 from last year. Opening day attendance was down by only 532 but posted the lowest number since 2001.
Saturday saw a gain of 1,559 on last year's attendance, with a total of 96,522 fairgoers.
Before the fair opened, organizers said they hoped good weather and the largest midway in North America would draw a record 1 million visitors this year. The 2006 State Fair was attended by 785,956 people.
Admission prices are $1 higher than a year ago, and sheets of ride tickets have six fewer tickets.
