WILMINGTON, N.C. — North Carolina's State Employees Credit Union Foundation pledged $3 million Tuesday to preserve Battleship North Carolina on the Wilmington waterfront. The donation is the largest ever to the floating museum, Capt. Terry Bragg, battleship executive director, said.

"The SECU Foundation’s generous donation will fund the construction of a veteran’s memorial walkway around the ship, as recognition to the service and sacrifice of all veterans,” Bragg said.

Battleship upkeep is funded primarily by the cost of admission charged to tourists along with other donations.

“As a proud Navy veteran, this project holds a special place in my heart, and I couldn’t be more thrilled," said Jim Barber, immediate past chair of the SECU Foundation.
