State cuts Medicaid payments

Posted September 29, 2009

N.C. health, mental health, Medicaid generic

The state will pay Medicaid providers less for certain goods and services effective Thursday. The cuts come as a result of budget reductions in the Department of Health and Human Services, Secretary Lanier M. Cansler said.

The state expects to realize savings of almost $200 million over the next two years through the rate reductions.

this whole article is bogus and is written to make it sound like the budget issues impacted this.

every year on october 1st the federal fiscal year begins and new rates are loaded into the medicaid payment system. the federal participation rates are ALWAYS lower each year so the state makes adjustments to lower the overall payments.

remember last year the state botched the rates and cost the state $200 million. hmmm...

The Medicaid and Medicare System should be for the United States Citizens who are elderly, disabled or in a situation which is beyond their fault. If we would quit giving it to drunks, drug addicts, women who refuse to quit having children and not naming the father of the children and the illegals. We may not have to cut benefits. Also stop doctors and medical facilites from raising prices sky high.

Medicaid is exactly why every worker receiving a paycheck from the age of 16 should be required to pay premiums for some sort of health insurance. The earlier everyone pays into the insurance system, whether public or private, the bigger the pool of money to pay out benefits when people need them as they age.

I agree. This is only half a story if even that much. What is being cut? From which Medicaid Program? How many people will it effect? etc.

I wonder if what is being cut is the emergency medicaid paid on behalf of illegal aliens. More detail in the story would be helpful.
