Stantonsburg teen threatened school violence, deputies say

Posted September 4, 2013

— A Stantonsburg teenager is facing a felony charge after authorities said he threatened to bring a gun to school and shoot students.

Brandon McMahon, 16, of the 200 block of Stanton Acres Drive, is charged with false report of mass violence on education property, according to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators said the teen, who attends Charles B. Aycock High School, said he was going to bring a gun to school and “shoot everyone on the bus.”
A school official reported the threat Friday, investigators said.

The teen was being held under a $5,000 bond.

    1. As others have said, evaluate him for mental illness or decreased cognitive ability. Treat accordingly.

    2. Evaluate his life for recent major stressors and ongoing or recent antagonism from others. Treat accordingly.

    3. If he's just being thoughtless and foolish, part of his jail or parole time needs to include ongoing education about A. how freedom of one person's speech may have an impact on other people's "right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" AND B. when it's a good time to use hyperbole.

"The GREAT SYSTEM STINKS ... IT ignores psychological problems"

How do you know he has psychological problems? Maybe he was being tormented by the other kids and he reached his limit for taking garbage from people. His idea was not the right way to handle it, but perhaps he let others know what was going on and it was ignored.

Story does not tell us if young man was receiving treatment or refusing treatment. Parents may have been taking him to Doctor but they cannot force him to talk

The GREAT SYSTEM STINKS ... IT ignores psychological problems that exist in this society. And people hurt and get hurt and this ignorance just perpetuates itself . AND THE PEOPLE IN CHARGE ARE COMPLACENT AND CLUELESS AND IGNORANT ABOUT THEIR IGNORANCE AND OR BACKWARDNESS !!!!!!!! They rather try and teach higher math to someone that's never going to use it. zenonx6

It's because the system is more concerned with who's wearing their seatbelts, who's marrying whom, etc.

I dont agree with " and his parents too". You don't kow but they may not have even known about his attidude or what ever his problem is. If the parents provoke his behavior then yes... but they may be as disgusted as you are.
