PITTSBORO, N.C. — Stage 3 mandatory water restrictions took effect Monday for Chatham County.
The restrictions mean that nearly all uses of county water for lawns, grass, groundcover, landscaping, pools and commercial car washes are banned until further notice. (View a list of restrictions in effect.)

Although the Stage 3 restrictions apply primarily to northeastern county customers who are served by Jordan Lake, Siler City has enacted similar restrictions.

A first offense brings a minimum fine of $250, a second offense $500 and a third violation would result in water being turned off. Penalties will be added to the customer’s utility bill and collected through the monthly billing process.
