— A Spring Lake man was charged Friday with kidnapping and raping a woman in his home a day earlier, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office.

Woodrow Reiss Mainor, 51, of 1411 Vass Road, faces charges of first-degree rape, first-degree kidnapping and crimes against nature.

Mainor threatened a woman with a knife, forced her to engage in sex and held her captive in his home early Thursday, said Debbie Tanna, a spokeswoman for the sheriff's office.

While she was being held in Mainor's home, the woman managed to call a friend, who alerted authorities, Tanna said.

She said Mainor and the victims were acquaintances.

He was placed in the Cumberland County jail under a $125,400 secured bond. His first court appearance was set for Monday.

Mainor has five misdemeanor convictions from the past eight years, including assault with a deadly weapon, larceny and damage to property, according to state Department of Correction records.

Horrible! The courts should give this man 60 years in prison without parole. Its awful when certain men have to take advantage of women for their own selfishness. Women be careful in the company you keep.

5 misdemeanors means he should not have been out on the streets. Make prison way tougher than it is and he will not want to go back ever again.

Well, he is innocent until proven guilty, but if proven guilty should remain in prison for the rest of his life for this crime. Also the bail does seem a little low for this crime - but so long as it is secured bond he should stay locked up for his trial.

We need to bite the bullet and pay whatever taxes it takes to build enough prisons to keep people like this locked away. Whatever it costs is better than having predators on the streets. readerman April 29, 2011 11:33 a.m. Ignore Report abuse

I have a BETTER solution to building new prisons...
