Spring Hope man dies in house fire

A Nash County man died in a house fire Christmas Day and three others who lived in the home were without shelter, according to the sheriff's office.

SPRING HOPE, N.C. — A Nash County man died in a house fire Christmas Day and three others who lived in the home were without shelter, according to the sheriff's office.

Earl Jay Lucas, 45, was found dead inside 2875 Bergeron Road in Spring Hope after firefighters extinguished a blaze there.

The home caught fire at about 11 p.m., the sheriff's office said. The cause of the fire was under investigation, but did not appear to be suspicious. 

The Red Cross was assisting the other residents.
