Spotty storms firing across central NC

Some storms were firing across the central part of the state about 2:30 p.m., moving north and east across the area.

"The best chance for storms will be in areas along and west of the Interstate 95 corridor," WRAL meteorologist Aimee Wilmoth said.

Severe weather is not expected to be widespread, but isolated severe weather is possible. Strong storms will drop heavy rain, include frequent lightning and possible some hail.

Temperatures were in mid-80s across the Triangle during the afternoon and are expected to fall back into the upper 70s during the evening.

The chance for storms will linger through the evening, Wilmoth said.

"Things will die down overnight, and Sunday is looking more stable," she said.

Highs on Mothers' Day will once again climb into the mid-80s. Scattered afternoon showers and storms are possible, but much of the area will stay dry.

Temperatures will hover in the upper 80s early in the work week under mostly sunny skies.
