Clint Bowyer doesn’t even want to think about what happened to him last year at Kansas Speedway.

While it appeared Bowyer would win his second race of the Chase For The Sprint Cup championship at his hometown track, NASCAR ruled that when the final caution flag came out, the field was frozen and victory was given to Greg Biffle, instead.

Now, as the series prepares to head back to Kansas for Sunday's Camping World RV 400, Bowyer is just one of a number of drivers who will be looking for different results this year.

“I’m not going to pay any attention to it,” Bowyer said, in reference to last year’s race at the 1.5-mile track.

“I’m just going to try and be fast,” he added.

Bowyer, currently sixth in the 2008 Chase standings, has run well at Kansas behind the wheel of his No. 07 Richard Childress Racing Chevy.

In two starts at Kansas, he has one top-five and one top-10 finish.

“It’s always fun to go back to Kansas,” Bowyer said. “It’s an important race track for me. You always want to go back and run well in front of the hometown crowd.”

Bowyer’s RCR teammate, Jeff Burton, hopes to have a much better outing than the 36th-place finish he had at Kansas in 2007.

Burton, fourth in the standings, noted he just hasn’t had the best of luck at Kansas since his fifth-place finish there in 2006.

“I’ve had good race cars at Kansas, but it just seems like we have things go wrong there,” the driver of the No. 31 RCR Chevy said.

“Last year, we had a couple of things get in the way of a good finish, and I’m hoping our bad luck turns around this weekend.

Kevin Harvick, driver of the No. 29 RCR Chevrolet, finished sixth at Kansas in 2007 and noted that the track is comparable to ChicagoLand Speedway, but like other 1.5-mile tracks it has its quirks.

“I know they are supposed to be the same, but the corners are a little bit sharper, and the exits of the corners are a little bit sharper,” Harvick said.

“Coming off Turn 4, it seems like the wall comes in on you as you come off the corners. It’s definitely a little bit different than Chicago.”

Although four-time Sprint Cup champion Jeff Gordon hasn’t won this season, he has won at Kansas twice in his career and finished fifth there last year.

“We had a great test at Kentucky last week,” the driver of the No. 24 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet said. “I feel like a lot of things we learned there we can apply to Kansas.”

Since the series started racing at Kansas in 2001, Gordon has two wins, four top-five and five top-10 finishes in seven starts. His only disappointing finish there was in 2006 when he didn’t finish the race because of a faulty fuel pump.

Gordon, who posted the fastest speed during the second day of testing at Lowe’s Motor Speedway on Wednesday for the Oct. 11 Bank of America 500, also noted his team has been working extremely hard to improve its 1.5-mile track program.

“It hasn’t been up to par for us this year on those tracks,” Gordon said of the intermediate tracks. “We've been searching all year long, trying to get that feel and comfort for me so that the speed can come along with it.”

In 113 career starts at intermediate tracks, Gordon has 13 wins.

Biffle, meanwhile, who is tied for second in the standings with reigning Cup champion Jimmie Johnson is more than ready to defend his title at Kansas from a year ago.

“One of the tracks I’m looking forward to is Kansas,” the Roush Fenway Racing driver said.
