'Canes announce 2008-2009 regular season schedule

The Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday released their 82-game schedule for the 2008-2009 regular season.

The Hurricanes will open at the RBC Center on Friday, Oct. 10, with a match against Southeast Division rivals, the Florida Panthers. After an away game at Tampa Bay, the Hurricanes will return to host the 2008 Stanley Cup champion Detroit Red Wings on Oct. 13.

Other highlights of the season include: a Nov. 1 game against the Hurricanes' 2006 Stanley Cup Final opponent, the Edmonton Oilers; the team's traditional New Year Eve's game, against division rival Atlanta this year; and the final home game on Thursday, April 9, against the Buffalo Sabres.

The Hurricanes' regular season ends with an away match at New Jersey on Saturday, April 11.
