BLACKSBURG, Va. - Virginia Tech has withdrawn its scholarship offer to troubled football recruit Peter Rose.
"Each scholarship offer we make is contingent upon a number of requirements, one of which is maintaining the high standards required of each recruit in their community, school and on the football field," coach Frank Beamer said in a statement Monday. "I am disappointed that this action was necessary."
According to the (Norfolk) Virginian-Pilot, Rose faces two misdemeanor marijuana charges and two felony charges for selling drugs within 1,000 feet of a school. Rose is a senior at Amherst (Va.) County High School. He was arrested Friday.
He played quarterback in high school but probably would have switched to defensive back at Virginia Tech.
