The Bulls put an end to their three-game losing streak Saturday at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park when they recorded their league-leading seventh shutout of the season, dropping the Chiefs by a score of 3-0. The team's last five victories have been shutouts.
Chris Mason (2-4, 4.25) pitched solidly to earn his second win of the season, scattering six hits over five innings while striking out four and walking one. Scott Munter and Nick DeBarr yielded two hits apiece over three innings before Grant Balfour nailed it down for his fifth save of the year. Justin Ruggiano hit a solo home run in his second consecutive game, going 2-for-4 with a stolen base, two runs scored and one driven in to lead the Bulls' offense.
Syracuse's David Purcey (3-3, 1.85) took the loss in 5.2 innings of work, in which he allowed five hits, three earned runs, a pair of walks and seven strikeouts. The Chiefs left ten runners on base on the evening.
The Bulls and Chiefs will continue their four-game series at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park at 5:05 p.m. on Sunday.
