Jacksonville, FL --- Chris Coghlan stormed home from third base thanks to a wild pickoff throw with the winning run in the 10th inning to lead the Carolina Mudcats to a 6-5 victory over the Jacksonville Suns at the Baseball Grounds on Wednesday afternoon.

Coghlan, who scored on a wild pitch in the first inning, doubled to begin the 10th, then stole third base with Cameron Maybin at the plate. After the next pitch from reliever Zach Hammes (L, 1-2), catcher Rene Rivera challenged Coghlan back to third base, but whizzed a throw past Coghlan and an unsuspecting third baseman Russell Mitchell into the left field corner to give the Mudcats (19-14) their second win in three games in Jacksonville (15-18).

After Coghlan scored in the first, the Suns scored four times in the bottom half against Aaron Thompson. The first six Suns hitters reached, although one was thrown out at home plate on a relay throw by Lee Mitchell. Carolina chipped back at Jacksonville starter Danny Muegge with two in the second on an infield hit by Brett Hayes and a sacrifice fly from Manuel Mayorson.

A single by Ivan DeJesus scored a Suns run in the fifth for a 5-3 lead, but Coghlan tied the game with a two-out, two-run single in the seventh against reliever Brian Akin.

Jesus Delgado (W, 4-0) earned the win in relief, retiring nine of the 10 batters he faced. Chris Mobley (S, 1) registered the save when he stranded Adam Godwin at second base in the 10th inning.

Thompson worked his longest start of the season, allowing five runs (three earned) over six innings.

The Mudcats remain four games behind in the Northern Division and send Brett Sinkbeil (1-1, 4.41) Thursday night at 7:05 PM ET against Marlon Arias (2-2, 4.68).
