DURHAM, N.C.– The fourth Golf World/NGCA Division I Coaches’ Poll was released on Wednesday with Duke returning to No. 1. The Blue Devils received 13 of the 23 first-place votes and a total of 659 points.
Duke moved back in front of UCLA who received 10 first place votes and 653 points. Rounding out the top 10 were Southern California, Arizona State, Florida, Purdue, Georgia, Alabama, Auburn and Arkansas. Oklahoma State, Denver, Arizona, Kent State, Wake Forest, Tennessee, Pepperdine, California, Michigan State, LSU, New Mexico, Texas A&M, Virginia, Stanford and Notre Dame closed out the top 25 teams in the poll.
The Blue Devils are coming off claiming their 13th straight ACC Championship over the weekend at the LPGA International Legends Course in Daytona Beach, FL. Duke registered a one-stroke victory over 23rd-ranked Virginia, its fifth win of the 2007-08 season.
Duke trailed by 10 strokes after day one but came back to tie for the lead heading into the final day.
Junior Amanda Blumenherst registered a par on the final hole, while Virginia’s Calle Nielson suffered a bogey, leading the Blue Devils to the victory. Over the three days, Duke carded rounds of 294, 285 and 292 to finish with an 871.
The Duke team will have a break for final exams before traveling to the NCAA Regionals, which will take place from May 8-10. The selections for regionals will be on Monday, April 28 at 5:00 p.m.
