North Carolina center Tyler Hansbrough has been named the winner of the 2008 Rupp Award as the national player of the year, the Commonwealth Athletic Club of Kentucky announced Tuesday.

Hansbrough already has been named national player of the year by the Sporting News and Sports Illustrated.

Tennessee’s Bruce Pearl was selected Coach of the Year.

The selections were made by a national selection committee consisting of more than 40 present and retired sports writers, coaches, broadcasters and sports administrators. The awards will be presented at the Final Four in San Antonio on April 3.

The Rupp Award has been awarded since 1972 and honors former Kentucky coach Adolph Rupp, who retired with 876 victories and four NCAA titles.
