When Donald Williams took over as the girls head basketball coach at Raleigh Charter High School, most of his team had no idea he was the Most Outstanding Player of the 1993 Final Four. But Williams soon found out there are no secrets in the digital age.

" They had already Googled me,” he said, “so they knew my history before I said a word to them!!"

Williams the coach suddenly became Williams the superstar coach.

“When we found out who he was it was a huge deal for us," said one of his players, Sara Bartlett.

To find out more about their MVP coach, the Charter team got together and watched the 1993 national championship game. UNC beat Michigan in that final, in part because of Williams’ terrific shooting.

"After that we hung on every word he had to say," Bartlett said.

As it turns out, Williams' biggest fans are also his biggest critics

"We tended to point out everything he did wrong -- because of what he tells us to do,” player Allison Creech said.

"That's funny,” Williams said. “Everything I get on them about, they see. So they came back and got on me about all my errors during the game."

Charter played River Mill Academy Monday night in the NCHSAA’s state basketball playoffs, but Charter's season came to an end, losing 42-32.
