ATLANTA, Ga. – For the second time this year, NC State freshman Ernie Myers blitzed Georgia Tech for 25 points.
Myers, who replaced injured senior starter Dereck Whittenburg in the lineup in mid-January, showed no signs of slowing down his remarkable scoring pace Wednesday night, hitting nine of his 15 shots from the field, making four of his five 3-point shots and converting three free throws, as the Wolfpack cruised to a 74-64 victory at Alexander Memorial Coliseum.
Myers, who last Wednesday night set an ACC scoring record for a freshman with 35 points against Duke, now has scored at least 25 points in three games since Whittenburg suffered a broken right foot against Virginia on Jan. 12.
The Wolfpack (10-7 overall, 4-4 ACC) trailed only once in the contest, in the opening minutes, and held a 37-33 lead at the half. Myers helped his squad push that lead to 12 points twice in the second half, but the Yellow Jackets used the ACC’s experimental 3-point shot and a quick tempo forced by the 30-second clock to get back in the game.
