CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — North Carolina will have to wait until 2010 to see Kendall Marshall in light blue but the sophomore from Arlington (Va.) Bishop O'Connell High School has made an early commitment to the Tar Heels.

Marshall is a 6-foot-1, 160-pound point guard who was being recruited nationwide. He made visits to Duke, Georgetown and Villanova but his most recent trip was to Chapel Hill. One of his strong suits is a superb basketball IQ. which is a bonus for a point guard. Washington, D.C., COMCAST TV anchor Chris Miller said that Marshall reminded him of former UNC guard Derrick Phelps.

Marshall just began his sophomore year and has three years of high school basketball to grow physically. Now that he has chosen North Carolina, Marshall fully understands what comes with the early commitment.

"If anything it just pushes me more to be the best player that I can be, " said Marshall. "I know when they hear that someone's going to North Carolina they are going to shoot at you, every day and every night. So I have to be ready for that and I can't slack off."

Sounds like a good game plan to work on for the next three seasons.
