Taft Destroys Durham Jordan, Brings in UNC Fans

Jordan vs. Taft - GSK

William Howard Taft High School flew all the way to Raleigh to take on the Durham Jordan Falcons on Thursday in the GlaxoSmithKline Holiday Invitational, and they came out running.

The Toreadors bolted out to a 16-0 lead with 5-minutes remaining in the first quarter, and the points kept coming.

Jordan guard Justin Watts got the first points for Taft with 4:44 remaining in the first quarter off of a slam dunk, but their offense was not a match for the Taft defense.

Taft got almost every shot they put up. Whether it was off the glass, around the rim, or the shooter’s touch – they all fell.

Jordan made a run in the final part of the first half, cutting the lead to 36-20.

Taft opened the second half with a 13-2 run in the first 2-minutes before Jordan coach Kim Annas.

The Toreadors’ point guard Larry Drew is a signed recruit of North Carolina, and at times it felt like the Dean Dome inside Holliday Gym. Drew, who stands at six-feet tall, scored 12 points against the Falcons, on the way to a 69-48 blowout victory.

Bryce Smith led the Toreadors with 21 points.

Although Drew stole most of the spotlight on Thursday, Jordan’s Justin Watts wanted to remind everyone that he is still capable of playing. In addition to hammering home several slam dunks, Watts put up 24points – the only Falcon to score in double digits.
