Out of all of the days in the Atlantic hurricane season, Tropical Storm (and possibly Hurricane at some point) Fay has decided it is time to threaten North Carolina.
Based on the forecast track Sunday morning, it appears that the storm is predicted to hit Florida, then come up through Georgia and South Carolina, and eventually getting into North Carolina on Friday.
Go figure.
Those of us who have been in North Carolina for some time know all-to-well what a tropical storm can do to these parts, even if it's not a hurricane when it gets here. I don't think we're expecting a Fran-like scenario based on what I saw on the weather forecast this morning, but does anyone remember Alberto?
It happened in June a few years ago. Alberto hit the Gulf states, then proceeded to come up through North Carolina. It caused flooding like I've never seen in Raleigh, and it wasn't even a tropical storm when it hit.
Well, high school football season officially gets underway Friday with hundreds of teams across the state suiting up and getting ready to make a run at a state championship ... or at least their supposed to.
It seems that it has become customary for schools to postpone football games at the first sign of rain. Unfortunately, a tropical system usually means rain - and a good dose of it.
I realize that we need the rain in North Carolina, I know the grass is brown and crunchy outside, but seriously - Does it have to happen on Friday night? And when I go to the Kenny Chesney concert on Saturday, I really don't want to be sitting in mud...
Coaches, fans, athletic directors, and everyone else, we will once again be updating game postponements all day Friday, this time on the all new HighSchoolOT.com. We will post information on how to get in contact with us should your school postpone a game, and the information will be posted on the Web site to help get the word out.
Remember, Football Friday is SUPPOSED to start Friday at 11:35 p.m., and regardless of the weather, HighSchoolOT.com will go live at Noon on Monday!
