"Whew...finally" As he walked into the press room, that was what Mike Fox's response to Carolina's first home run of the College World Series.

Tim Federowicz, AKA, Fed Ex, delivers one of the most powerful grand slams in UNC history. Top of the 9th- tied with LSU-facing elimination-in a game that took two days to play.

Matt Graepel got the rally started with a double that could have been a triple. Mike Fox held Graepel at 2nd. A wild pitch puts runners on 2nd and 3rd and LSU coach Paul Mainieri walks Tim Fedroff.

Then it's Fed Ex time. With a lump on the left side of his head from a beaning he took yesterday, Federowicz puts a hurtin' on Mr. Baseball.

UNC reliever Rob Wooten downplayed home runs. Pitchers don't like them and UNC hadn't been hitting them. "Home runs are the sexy part of baseball...but that was one of the sexiest homers I have ever seen," said the 5th year senior.

Hats off to starter Alex White who gets out of a bases loaded jam in the 8th and pitches a clean 9th. It's so hard for a starter to enter a game that late in the evening. 2nd or 3rd inning maybe but 8th??

Basketball Coach Roy Williams flew in for the game today and as the crowd filed out, Williams made his way to the UNC dugout.  He waited to make eye contact with Tim Federowicz. A smile and a fist pump from both met above the dugout.

"I've never had one like that," Federowicz said with a broad smile.

One swing and the season continues for North Carolina. Mike Fox doesn't know who will start on the mound Saturday night against Fresno State but he knows all of his pitchers will say they can go.

Reliever Rob Wooten said if he's needed 5 straight days, he'll pitch 5 straight games. It will take 5 more games for North Carolina to win a National Championship.

One pitch, one inning, one game at a time.
