ACC '08 - Final - UNC vs. Clemson

Live Blog: #1 Overall

3:14p.m. Barring a mistake with the paperwork.  North Carolina will be the #1 overall seed and the Raleigh to Charlotte track to San Antonio.

3:10p.m. Once again it will be pointed out how bad Clemson was from the FT line 12-23 just 52%, but UNC wasn't much better 13-22 for 59%.

3:05p.m. Heels up by 7 with :25.5 to go 84-77. Strong second half from Lawson, who had 12pts and 8 assists.

3:02p.m. Big Rebound by "Psycho T" to get the ball back with 1:02 up by 4.

3:00p.m. Both teams shooting 2 the rest of the way.  Ogelsby in for offense taken out for defense by Oliver Purnell. Quentin Thomas just got rung up for his 4th foul.  Heels up 81-77 with 1:40 to go.

2:57p.m. Lawson is looking quicker today than any other game he's played in since his return.  Surprised to see Ogelsby on him but now Perry has been subbed in.

2:55p.m. Hansbrough hit with his 3rd foul an offensive foul for pushing off.  However, Clemson unable to cash in down 77-72 with 3:45 left.  For the conspirarcy theorists reading and reacting to the blog Clemson has had 13 fouls called on them to Carolina's 16.  Tigers are in the double bonus, shooting 2 the rest of the way, which may not help b/c they stink normally at the line.  Heels bonus shooting 1-1 right now.

2:47p.m. Danny Green is gone fouled out with 5:53 left, Heels hanging on 74-68.

2:45p.m. KC Rivers won't be stopped. He has 6 3s and 28pts. Ellington however answering for the Heels, who are up 74-67 w/5:54 left.

2:42p.m. A UNC fan had a sign asking Where is Speedo Man?  My guess somewhere on Spring Break.

2:38p.m. Lawson showing some burst again getting by defenders and finishing at the rim this half after a slow start.

2:30p.m.  Danny Green has 3 fouls and is on the bench now.  He has been very productive in the second half with 9pts. off the bench.

2:27p.m Hansbrough suddenly has 14 pts after the slow start he's finding space to operate in the paint.

2:24p.m. UNC flexing their muscles in the paint getting some easy buckets and putbacks.

2:13p.m. New contact and all Hansbrough with the hoop and the harm.  Heels have only shot 3 FTs so far in the game with 16:26 to go.  When Hansbrough goes to the NBA he should become a spokesman for laser eye surgery.

2:11p.m. It had been a while, but Hansbrough has lost a contact again.   So he had to check out of the game with the Heels up 44-40.

2:05p.m. 20 fast break points for the Tar Heels in the first half to Clemson's 3.  Clemson has cashed in off turnovers, 10 Heels turnovers have led to 15 Clemson points.  UNC has 11 pts off 8 Clemson turnovers. Slight edge in points in the paint for UNC 18-14.

1:59p.m.  KC Rivers is doing his best Wayne Ellington for the Tigers with 15 at the half and has knocked down 3 three pointers.

1:50p.m. Lawson's last second shot at the buzzer rattled in and then out.  Heels down 39-38 at the half.  Wayne Ellington is carrying the Heels offense with 14pts.  The Tigers just don't have a good matchup for him.  They have done a great job on Hansbrough, but if your Roy Williams you have to feel pretty being down just a point with little points wise from Hansbrough.

1:42p.m.  Hansbrough is off to a slow start with just 6 pts. and 2 rbs.  However, he had  a slow start in the last meeting between the two teams and finished with 39pts. Somehow he will probably finish with 20pts.

1:35p.m. Clemson was whistled for a 10 second violation.  Yesterday Va. Tech had two violations that were missed one time it took 13 seconds and no whistle was blown.

1:25p.m. Wayne Ellington continues to destroy Clemson.  He has 10 pts on 4-4 shooting with 2 3s.  He has 36 and 28 in the two previous games this year.  He might hit 40 today and he may need to b/c Clemson is really playing well.

1:21p.m. Ogelsby's range starts from half court.  He takes really deep threes and has already knocked a couple down.  The Heels need to stay on him at all times.  He's already hit one 2 from well beyond NBA range and taken another from just in front of the logo.

1:17p.m. The flamboyant official didn't make the finals.  Maybe he had another assignment or maybe he just didn't make the grade.

1:11p.m. Tar Heels able to get a couple early easy one's in transition good sign after yesterday's slow down pace that the Hokies forced on them.  I would expect this game to be much faster with the athletes on both teams.

1:08 p.m. The Heels coach did not like the blocking fould called on his POY.  Clemson again knocking down free throws like they did yesterday.

1:05p.m. Not exactly a neutral court.  Many more and much louder Tar Heel contingent here than Tiger fans.

12:51p.m. Sure Duke is not here, but Dick Vitale is still working the finals for ESPN along with Mike Patrick and Stacey Dales working sidelines.  Steve Martin and Mike Gminski will call the game for Raycom and can be seen on WRAL TV 5  in the Triangle.

12:39 p.m. Getting ready for the big game and we will be blogging on the Carolina side of things.

i think those who are taking about how carolina got all the calls, you must have been watching a different game, because both teams were in foul trouble. but i'll forgive you, since your probably just in a lot of pain from having to watch carolina win AGAIN against clemson.

Please. UNC had some bad "foul" calls this year. They played hard, unlike yesterday. Congrats Tarheels on another ACC Championship.

what u just said 'chivegas' has No Class!! I mean come on UNC has played this game fair and square!! It has been a great game!

Great, looks like the University of No Class wins the ACC again. I loved the way Hansbrough almost cried when he was called for an offensive. 'how can it be, fouls are only called against me..wah wah'

are you serious...have you not seen the replays of these lack of calls on clemson...T is getting beat up and nothing is called but they can touch someone at the other end and get fouled instantly?!?

Thanks for the numbers Scott--but now PaulRevere will say you are part of the "secret agenda"

Roy just heard Paul Revere was on to him so he had Danny Green foul out...alll part of the coverup Paul.

Paul Revere...you must be kidding. You really don't see them beating TH? Even the announcers have talked about it. Sorry you live in such a bitter place.

The refs have been in the tank for UNC all along. Congratulations, UNC. Nice tournament "win".

Wow! One thing is clear, the two best teams in the ACC are playing today.
