3:39 p.m.,UNC 68 VT 66 FINAL, Best game of ACC Tournamnet by miles. in the end too much Hansbrough who nails the game winner with .8 seconds left, after great defense by Hokies. Both teams displayed great effort, in the end just a little too much, and Hansbrough just keeps getting better you don't realize how good he is and then you see his numbers. Did the Hokies do enough to get to the dance with this weekend? Tomorrow will be the Hokies longest day ever waiting for the word to come. Guard Malcolm Delaney showed that he will be a clutch player for the next few years and Seth Greenberg deserved his coach of the year honors. This game epitomizes what the ACC is about; and as bad as the first two rounds of this years tournament have been, this game makes up for it. Hokie fans should be proud of how far this team has come this season. Thanks to both Virginia Tech and Carolina for a great game. We'll see highlights from this game forever.
3:34 p.m.,Tie Game :21 left in game. Heels have the ball and can play for the last shot, Hokies best defender on bench, Roy calls another time out. Here we go.
3:32 p.m., give us overtime!
3:26 p.m., Bad calls by refs helped out Heels, really questionable, but the Hokies have to find a way to keep Tyler Hansbrough off the glass down the stretch. Delaney and Ellington just traded threes, but Ellington bailed out VT earlierwith a technical by talking trash to Deron Washington. Now a major problem for the Hokies Washington fouls out of the game hacking Ellington on the elbow on a long three. 1:28 left Heels and Hokies tied with three free throws coming up.
3:20 p.m., VT 59 UNC 56-Seth Greenberg calls a good time out to calm his kids plus he has the next deadball timeout . Buckle up for a great finish. The selection commitee might have to consider how to put this team in. Can the Hokies keep up this play...time to find out.
3:19 p.m., Find a TV and watch this game
3:14 p.m., VT 59 UNC 56 4:58 left in game-Deron Washington has just had the dunk of the tournament over Green Tea or Danny Green as it were...and it will be one that is shown for ever. Tyler Hansbrough just had a call gohis way but Hokies aren't shaken at all.
3:07 p.m., VT 55 UNC 52 7:41 left in game-Besides two of the worst charging calls in the tournament called back to back, We finally have a tournament game that has everyone fired up. Even our engineer Jay Bell is staying awake for this one. Hokies need to start thinking about the clock and taking smart shots. Neither team is in real foul trouble except Tech's Vassallo who would be huge down the stretch like he was against Miami.
3:01 p.m., Heels are making a run Hokies need to keep the pro-Carolina crowd sitting on their hands which is has been the case most of the day, and Deron Washington delivers with and incredible drive-lay-up and one. VT 55 UNC 50 with 8:49 left.
2:53 p.m.,13:14 left. Hokies playing like a team that needs to win to get to NCAA Tournament, Heels playing like a team that knows they are in no matter what.
2:44 p.m., Teams come out ice cold. VT 48 UNC 42-Hokies are better on the boards to start. Virginia Tech looks like the top seed ,not worried or hesitant at all, and are making the Heels look slow. A 10-4 run to start was what I thought the blue team had in them, Seth Greenberg did a great job adjusting to Carolina's offense all game long. Within the next few posts my partner on the Fanatics Dan Mason will offer to coach UNC.
2:25 p.m., VT 38 UNC 38 at the Half-Hokies could not have played a better first half. But Carolina is starting to impose will and figuring out that Hansbrough can get loose in the paint. The Hokies need to brace themselves for what the Heels will bring out of the locker room.
2:15 p.m., VT 34 UNC 32 3:15 left in 1st half-Hokies a hanging tough Malcolm Delaney is playing really well against the UNC guards. Hansbrough now feels like a factor getting to the line. Hokies protecting the ball well so far, with only three turnovers. Seth Greenberg can now break this into segements.
2:11 p.m., Carolina hitting the boards better Hokies need to hang onto a 32-30 lead to the under 4 minute time out.
2:02 p.m., The Hokies are up 29-21-Everytime the Heels look to be building Tech has an answer, and now the Hokies are on a 9-0 run.Seth Greenberg moves more than any coach in the country and his team is playing like NCAA tournament club. Tyler Hansbrough has 8 points but doesn't feel like a factor but has not been drawing fouls, Hokies doing great job forcing him to jump shots.
1:54 p.m., VT 16 UNC 15 11:44 left in the 1st half- AD Vassallo has seven points and is showing the Tar Heel Fans he can be a difference make. Heels doing a good job taking ball to the tin. Problem for Heels, a break for the Hokies, Wayne Ellington seems to have a left leg injury, that could make the difference if the Heels have no inside/outside.
1:49 p.m., Five team fouls in five minutes against Hokies...just saying. I'm sorry make it six.
1:42 p.m., VT 7 UNC 7 15:44 Left in 1st half-The Hokies have not backed down early if the first four minutes are any indication we could have our first great game of the ACC Tournament. Delaney hits a big three pointer and the pace is right where the Hokies want it, and the are crashing the boards.
1:33 p.m., Bad News in the arena for the Hokies, every available seat that was not issued to Hokie fans has someone wearing Carolina Blue and to add more bad signs, Mark Thomas from the Insiders gave the fist pound to the Tech players, he did the same to the Wake Forest Demon Deacons and they didn't fare too well. Not a good start.
1:23 p.m., My co-host Dan Mason on the Fanatics is blogging the Heels side of things, I wonder if he will accuse Carolina of quitting? Key match-up for the Hokies, point guard Malcolm Delaney on Ty Lawson, if Delaney can control tempo that will be huge in this game. Dell Curry is in attendence for the Hokies, his three point shooting could be helpful, although AD Vassallo could fill this roll.
1:14 p.m., The Virginia Tech Hokies made it to semi-final Saturday using athleticism and tenacious rebounding. They will need much more than that to advance to Sunday as the home team, I mean top seed Carolina Tar Heels are loaded top to bottom, nut don't think the Hokies are just happy to be here, this is a team that has talent and the ACC coach of the year Seth Greenberg, it won't take a miracle but it will take the best game the Hokies have played this year.
